How long before a flight should you leave home? Three variables sit between your departure time and the moment you close the front door: how long you need at the terminal, how long the drive to Ben Gurion takes from your town, and how heavy the traffic will be at that particular hour. This calculator works out all three and returns a recommended pickup time - including an automatic allowance for the morning and afternoon rush, and for night flights where the pickup falls on the previous day.

The calculation uses average drive times and the guidance to be at the terminal three hours before departure. Unusual traffic, weather or terminal queues can change it. When you book with us we calculate the time from your flight number and the conditions on the day.
How the calculation works
We start from your departure time and subtract three things: the time you need at the terminal, the actual drive, and a safety margin if you asked for one.

Terminal time - three hours for a standard international flight, two and a half for a short flight with hand luggage only, and three and a half at peak hours or when travelling with children.

Drive time - based on the town you picked. If the pickup falls between 06:00 and 09:00 or between 15:00 and 19:00, we extend it by around 40 percent for traffic.

Safety margin - an extra half hour, worth adding when travelling with children, leaving from an address you do not know well, or simply when you would rather not rush.
